Sunrise Church: Blessings of the Past, Hope for the Future

We stand on the shoulders of those that have come before us! Sunrise Church was conceived and established in 1953 as Sullivan’s Island Presbyterian Church. The congregation worshiped at two locations mid-island before moving in 1976 to its present location at Breach Inlet, where it underwent a rebirth and became Sunrise Church. In 1989, Hurricane Hugo reduced the church’s buildings to rubble. With faith and confidence, the congregation rebuilt.

The members of Sunrise Church affirm their trust in God’s steadfast love, even in the face of life’s uncertainties. From a fledgling chapel, mid-island, to the wonderful building we now occupy, the faith and commitment of past generations laid a firm foundation for us. What we have learned from our past, we are taking into the future. As a welcoming community, we are a place where everyone who wishes to belong can find a home. This is who we have been; this is who we are; and, by God’s grace, this is who we will be!
