Who they are
Stephen Ministers have gone through 50 hours of training to provide high-quality Christian care to individuals experiencing a crisis or challenge such as divorce, grief, loss of a job, hospitalization, relocation, or loneliness. Stephen ministers are each assigned a care receiver and meet with that care receiver for about an hour a week. This caring relationship will last for as long as the care receiver needs it. Everyone experiences loss or trauma at some point in their life. Stephen Ministers provide a one-to-one Christ centered empathetic presence, listening without judgment as their care receiver works through the inevitable emotional hurdles that accompany a loss or crisis. These challenges can include serious illness, grief, loss of a loved one, significant loss of function, caring for a family member with long-term needs, divorce, loss of a job, or any issue an individual experiences in a profound way. We are not a substitute for healthcare providers or home services. We are well-trained lay caregivers, reflecting God’s compassion for our community. Typically, a Stephen Minister will meet with their care receiver for about an hour a week for as long as the care receiver needs their support.
